NIFF Welcomes Humphrey Bogart’s Son for Screening of ‘The Maltese Falcon’

Stephen Bogart will host a Q&A following the film Aug. 10.

BY August 2, 2016

As part of its ongoing off-season programming, the Naples International Film Festival is bringing in Humphrey Bogart’s son, Stephen, to attend a special screening of The Maltese Falcon at 7 p.m. on Aug. 10 at Mercato's Silverspot Cinema.

Stephen Bogart will answer questions from the audience following the screening. Part of Stephen’s life work has been to carry on his late father’s legacy. He’s a managing partner in the Humphrey Bogart Estate, helps organize the annual Humphrey Bogart Film Festival in Key Largo and wrote Bogart: In Search of My Father. He’s also had an extensive career in TV production, working for ESPN, CBS' The Early Show, Court TV and others.

The showing is a reflection of the Naples International Film Festival’s expansion. New festival director Jon Fitzgerald is attempting to make the festival a year-round event. The four-day festival (held Oct. 27-30 this year) will still bring in a multitude of features, shorts and documentaries. But, in addition, the festival is adding more off-season events, such as a screening of West Side Story in May and the upcoming Bogart classic.

Overall, “(NIFF) will be a lot more robust,” Fitzgerald told us in our June issue.

Tickets to the screening are $16 and can be purchased here.
