The Power of Positive Thinking May Be for Real

New study links mindset and health

Keep thinking good thoughts. It may be better for your health than you realize.

A new study in the American Journal of Epidemiology that followed thousands of older women over six years found that the ones who looked on the bright side of life tended to live longer. The researchers controlled for a variety of factors—age, education, etc.—and discovered that the optimistic women were 29 percent less likely to die during that time period. They even found out that the women with cancer had a reduced risk of dying during that time.

Of course, this is a lot of conjecture, but it’s one of the first major studies to find a link between well-being and positive thinking.

Cynics, take note.
