Calendar Highlight: Postcards and Perceptions

A Collier County Museum exhibit opening today delves into the state's Seminole history.

BY January 27, 2017

If a picture says 1,000 words, how about a postcard? In the case of those in the Collier County Museum’s Postcards and Perceptions: Florida Seminoles & Tourism exhibit, quite a lot. These words speak to early 20th century Florida history, specifically that of the Seminole people. Simple images are powerful in their messages of how the Seminoles’ economic independence evolved to fuel Florida tourism, the complex pressures they faced and their fight to hold onto their identity in a changing landscape. The exhibit, which comes to the Collier County Museum courtesy of Clewiston’s Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum, runs Jan. 27 through April 29. colliermuseums.com
