How Important is Breakfast?

The New York Times dares question the most important—and fun—meal of the day

The War Against Breakfast has begun. OK, that’s an exaggeration. But The New York Times has called into question the popular refrain of breakfast being the most important meal of the day.

In “Sorry, There’s Nothing Magical About Breakfast,” writer Aaron E. Carroll details the problems with the scientific research surrounding our favorite meal. Basically, it’s flawed, confusing, contradictory, coincidental. Another problem: The food industry funds a lot of it. For example, that study about how eating cereal makes you thinner just so happens to be funded by Kellogg. Overall, “We have no idea what’s going on,” Carroll writes.

Our take: Say what you want about the science, but no one can debate that breakfast is the most fun meal of the day. Not magical? Apparently, someone’s never had waffles.
