The New York Times on Monday published a story that got quite a bit of attention online. The headline: “After ‘The Biggest Loser,’ Their Bodies Fought to Regain Weight.”

Researchers found that after losing at times hundreds of pounds, contestants of the hit reality show actually gained much of it back. Basically, their bodies were working against them.

“As the years went by and the numbers on the scale climbed, the contestants’ metabolisms did not recover. They became even slower, and the pounds kept piling on,” the story read.

It’s a reminder of just how difficult the battle with obesity can be. But it’s not impossible. There are plenty of success stories and rules for shedding weight and keeping it off.
