A Knife Set That's a Cut Above

No matter how you slice it, this top-of-the-line knife kit designed by celebrity chef (and frequent Southwest Florida visitor) Rick Moonen is fit for a pro.

’Tis the season for carving roasts—and also the season for gift giving—so Rick Moonen couldn’t have had better timing for his latest project.

The celebrity chef, a familiar face as a competitor and judge in the Top Chef enterprise with RM Seafood and RX Boiler Room in his home of Las Vegas, has developed and released the ultimate 12-piece knife set ($199) for a serious home cook. With its own knife block and traveling sleeve, it’s a perfect surprise for a food lover in your family. Or maybe, if you've been a good girl or boy, gift it to yourself (especially if you can't stand using the worn-down excuses for blades at a relative's house when you're helping out in the kitchen).

It's also only feels appropriate supporting someone like Moonen, who has spent so much of his career focused on the idea of giving back, as he rose to prominence nationally as a leading proponent of sustainable seafood (plus he's got a soft spot for Southwest Florida, as his wife, Roni, has roots here and was actually once an art director at Gulfshore Life!).

Get the Hot Dish every Wednesday and Friday online and every month in Gulfshore Life.
