Being Nice to Your Heart Pays Off

Incidence of heart disease is down significantly.

BY November 15, 2016

We seem to be winning the battle against heart disease.

A new report in the Journal of the American Medical Association took a look at the incidence of heart disease in two different generations. Using years of information on tens of thousands of people from observational studies, they looked at two different groups (one in the '80s and one more recent) and found that a lot fewer people got heart disease in the latter group. Twenty percent fewer, to be exact.

Researchers say the decline is to a variety of factors, including increased awareness of diabetes, fewer people smoking and the increased use of cholesterol fighting drugs like statins.
