The iridescent hues found in tiny shells and other inspirations from the Gulf of Mexico were delivered to Judith Liegeois Designs by new Naples homeowners. Their efforts resulted in a wonderfully muted and serene color scheme employed for the redesign of a spacious condominium in The Windsor at Bay Colony.
The new homeowners, from Charlotte, N.C., spent three weeks in residence to determine the required changes, and by then they were ready to launch a spectacular update.
“The color scheme draws the eye to the Gulf view,” explains designer Gabriela Helesicova, who worked on the project. One captivating change involved replicating the shape of an inlaid carpet in the living room to create an architecturally pleasing Venetian-plastered, dropped ceiling, which was then polished to reflect the Gulf of Mexico waters.
“They were looking for an elegant and contemporary feel of a beach house without the maintenance issues of a house,” Helesicova explains. “This is their little beach retreat.”

Art Appreciation
A Sophia Murano chandelier created by Jan Showers centers the dining room space, over the Sutcliffe walnut table. Paintings are by Peter Strelnik. “Every wall has a special piece of artwork on it,” Helesicova says.

A Dramatic Entrance
Stroheim’s grass cloth wall coverings were selected for the home’s entry and sconces are vintage Barovier & Tosso. The chandelier is by Jean de Merry in a bronze finish. Ran Adler’s From the Rivers Edge artwork involves pieces of an equisetum plant encased in Lucite.

Timeless Traditions
The kitchen, designed by architect Rob Herscoe and fabricated by Bailiwick’s Kitchen Design, features a modern appeal. “The tones are neutral and timeless,” the designer says. “It’s a beach-like feel without an island look.” Stools are by Dessin Fournir in mahogany and a macassar ebony veneer and then upholstered in J. Hutton fabric. Flower vessels were created for Judith Liegeois Designs.

Elegant Comfort
Avid collectors of art and sculpture, the homeowners selected treasured items for display in the family room. A walnut armchair from the art deco period is refurbished in Elmo leather from Sweden, and a matching ottoman was created by Judith Liegeois Designs. Builtin bookcases feature a collection of corals, also from the designer’s showroom. A Ran Adler sculpture featuring monkey ladder wood from Barbados is displayed on a Lucite platform. “The homeowners have impeccable taste,” Helesicova says.
