Innovation abounds in the last exhibit of the season at Thomas Riley Studio, a showing of creators Tadao Cern and Taekyeom Lee.
Multimedia artist Cern carries the precision of his former architecture career into his current, optical-illusion work, the Chromatic Aberrations series. It’s oil paint on canvas, but applied to many a different outcome by airbrush in beautiful, temporarily masking tape-bound stripes—up to 12 layers of them, with each layer taking one to two weeks to dry. Graphic design-trained Lee’s process is equally spellbinding, as he crafts his uniquely textured ceramic pieces with none other than a 3-D printer. The exhibit, open now through May 25, will have videos playing to prove it.
