It’s the best of times and the worst of times, and the busiest of times.
Season is upon us. Our September issue is our annual season preview of all the charitable events and galas that Southwest Florida is known for.
If you’ve never lived through a season here before, you’re in for a treat (basically, avoid U.S. 41 and I-75 if at all possible until next spring). If you have, let us give you a few reasons to be looking forward to (and not cursing) the busy time of year.
Cool parties: Yes, there are a bunch most of us can only dream of going to (The acclaimed Naples Winter Wine Festival is $10,000 per couple). But many more are both affordable and also a good time for a good cause, including Craving Fashion happening this Friday at Waterside. Young professional groups have been springing up more recently, hosting benefits that won’t break your bank. Young Professionals of Naples is hosting a season kick-off Nov. 11. (Check out our detailed calendar of charity events here.)
Celebrity sightings: You never know who’s going to show up this time of year. Just head to your local bar and you might bump into a rock star or actor or pro wrestler. Or Judge Judy.
Big-name talent: Some great acts are coming to Southwest Florida over the next few weeks—Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Dylan, Jay Leno.... this list goes on. Get a sample in our preview of the arts season.
Hats! Yes, hats. Maybe it’s just us, but we love a good hat. And season brings out all of them, from Hats in the Garden to the Derby Dash. Overall, season is the time to strut your stuff—check out our party pix galleries here.
Good food: Many restaurants cut hours or just shut down during the off-season. But they’re starting to get back in full swing now, along with some exciting new ones starting up. Find a good spot for a night out in our searchable restaurant guide.
