The days are getting longer, leaving us more time to savor the glorious sun, sand and water. At a juncture overlooking the Sanibel Causeway, there sits an elevated seaside cabin serving a little bit of everything—most with an inspired Southern twang. Summerlin Jake’s Seafood and Steaks opened in late 2016, and while you can’t go wrong with the house-smoked ribs, charbroiled filet mignon, or roasted mushrooms over farro and smoked pecans, a tasting board for two brings out the best of chef Richard Howze’s repertoire. From andouille poached in red wine with a sprinkle of blue cheese to pulverized black eyed peas to a smooth chicken liver pâté alongside onion jam, it’s the sweetest song of the South on a plate.
