Breast Cancer Death Rates Continue to Drop

The rate fell nearly 40 percent over a 16-year span.

In time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the American Cancer Society released some promising news. From 1989 through 2015, breast cancer death rate dropped 39 percent. The society attributed the decline to early cancer screenings and improvements in treatments.

Even still, breast cancer is still the most common form of cancer among women and the second-deadliest, behind lung cancer. More than 250,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. About 40,000 are expected to be fatal.
