quicheLorraine
The Gulfshore classic, a petite storefront on U.S. 41 near Park Shore, is still going strong after a change in ownership last year.
It no doubt helps that they’re from Saint Tropez and matriarch Isabelle Field runs the show—and they already have a proven track record locally with the cozy Bonita breakfast nook Survey Café (which they still own).
Clever touches like grilled baguette slices in the onion soup add a smoky depth and allow it to be served by the cup or bowl.
Despite some minor cosmetic changes like a bit of new carpeting here and upholstery there, the ambiance feels more like that of an old shoe than an on-point stiletto, but people keep returning for the hearty dishes oozing with savory French cheese, sharp Dijon vinaigrette and rich wine sauce.
It’s exactly the kind of casual place you can count on for a decadent midday quiche Lorriane (baked as a pastry sheet rather than a tart) or a filling dinner of duck a l’orange.
