Can’t get a good look at our region’s exotic fliers up close in the wild? The next best thing for those of us who aren’t bird-whisperers is to enjoy the work of an artist who studies the winged creatures three hours a day. Sunshine State species spring to life in actual-size, hand-colored etchings in The von Liebig Art Center’s John Costin: Florida Birds, on display Jan. 17 through Feb. 28. Costin’s meticulous portrayal personifies the aviators as the stars to a theatrical set-like backdrop of their natural habitat. naplesart.org
