Whether it’s for a day in their life or until the day they die, nearly all Americans share a common culture: work. And now we all can marvel at how far our country has come in the past 150 years—land, air and sea. Through May 16, as part of a collaboration between state humanities councils and the Smithsonian, traveling exhibit The Way We Worked is up at the Marco Island Historical Museum. Stirring photographs, impactful film and archival accounts give us a grasp of America’s progression by hand and machine. Spinoff exhibits running in tandem include The Way Marco Island Worked plus The Way We Worked … Along the Trail at Museum of the Everglades and The Way We Worked: Immokalee, Ranch & Garden at the Immokalee Pioneer Museum.
