It’s estimated that close to 17 million people in the United States have an alcohol abuse disorder—and many of them may not even be aware of that.
In response, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism has launched the Alcohol Treatment Navigator. It’s an easy-to-use guide that provides ways to find help. Its quiz feature can also be a quick gauge to determine whether your drinking might be getting out of control.
The site was devised as a way to fight the perception that alcohol abuse is an either-or situation: As in, either you’re an alcoholic or you’re not.
"We now know that there's a full spectrum in alcohol use disorder," NIAAA director George Koob told NPR.
