Hearing loss is one of those ailments a significant number of adults face at some point in life. The key is making sure things aren’t getting worse than they need to be.
Nearly one in three Americans suffer from life-diminishing hearing loss by the age of 65. However, as The New York Times points out, most adults put off seeking help for five to 15 years. This can compound the issue in several ways. The loss of hearing can lead to fatigue and headaches and, long-term, a possible greater risk of dementia, according to the Times. New research also found an association between hearing loss and life expectancy.
