New evidence is showing that regular exercise is a good way to fight off Alzheimer’s disease.
A series of studies presented at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference last week indicated that people who are in the early phases of the disease could benefit from regular physical activity. Two of the studies showed that moderate exercise helped stave off the protein that’s linked to a risk of Alzheimer’s.
“Exercise or regular physical activity might play a role in both protecting your brain from Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and also living better with the disease if you have it,” said Maria Carrillo, Ph.D., Alzheimer’s Association chief science officer, in a news release.
Of course, working out is just one step in keeping a brain healthy. The Alzheimer’s Association recommends a mix of healthy eating, physical activity, a rich social life and stimulating mental challenges.
