If you opened your Wall Street Journal this morning to find our very own Florida Repertory Theatre on its pages, perhaps you weren't even surprised. According to Founder and Producing Artistic Director Robert Cacioppo, it was Florida Rep's eighth national review from the publication in seven years. Their drama critic, Terry Teachout, has proven to be quite the fan.
His latest review has us ready to jump in the car to head up to the Arcade Theatre in Fort Myers for Florida Rep's performance of A.R. Gurney's The Cocktail Hour. Teachout, who writes today that Florida Rep is "one of the top regional troupes in the U.S.," goes so far as to say the production of Gurney's autobiographical comedy about a playwright who pens a work revealing the WASPy world of his upper-class parents is "the most satisfying staging" he has ever seen.
You can read the entire review here. The Cocktail Hour runs through Wednesday, Jan. 27, but we're quite excited for Florida Rep's main-stage production up next as well: Running Feb. 9 through March 2 is the classic Twelve Angry Men. Read a preview of that in the Calendar Highlights of our upcoming February issue.
