Go ahead and treat yourself to breakfast Friday, June 3—it’s on the house at our best doughnut shops in honor of National Doughnut Day. (I don’t know who is responsible for making that faux-liday a “thing,” but I’m never one to turn away a sweet deal.)
Leading the pack is Trackside Donuts and Cafe in the burnt umber steeple on Old 41. They’ll be handing out a retro ring (a glazed or cake donut) to anyone who stops by. Also in Lee County, Bennett’s Fresh Roast, which has been featured on the Food Network’s Donut Showdown and has locations in Fort Myers and Sanibel, will give each guest a choice of a glazed or cinnamon-sugar doughnut as long as you order a cup of their famous joe.
In Naples, Peace, Love & Little Donuts has developed a loyal following for creative flavor combos like s’mores (a take on the campfire favorite) and coffee cake (with mocha frosting and streusel on top), so their deal—a free doughnut with any purchase—is an incentive to experiment with, say, maple-bacon or Key lime in addition to your tried and true favorite.
And with no fewer than 50 locations locally from Marco Island to Cape Coral, Immokalee and even Lehigh Acres, the granddaddy of doughnut shops, Dunkin’ Donuts, will give anybody a classic O with the purchase of a drink (I bet you already have nostalgia-fueled visions of chocolate-frosted with sprinkles or powdered sugar dancing in your head).
I should also mention that with all of these, the “as long as supplies last” disclaimer is in effect, and most joints close before 3 p.m. anyway (the exceptions being DD and the Sanibel Bennett’s), so make an early visit a sweet start to your day.
