Gulfshore Life’s first ever cover contest recently awarded participants with a variety of prizes. A print of the photocomposition featured on the August issue cover was awarded to Jason Dunning and ten restaurant gift cards were awarded to level-one contest winners.
From July 26 through Aug. 31, Gulfshore Life readers entered the Nature IQ Contest, sponsored by Craig Jones, Realtor® with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty, in an attempt to spot and identify the creatures photographed. The image, entitled “Nuestra Casa,” created by R.J. Wiley, was reproduced on metal and awarded to the genius-level winner, Jason Dunning.
Dunning, a meteorologist at NBC-2 News, participated in the contest during a layover from Minnesota to Fort Myers. While he did have to do some research to correctly identify the species, many were frequent visitors in his backyard. Dunning’s home is located near the Six Mile Slough Wildlife Preserve in Fort Myers, where he enjoys familiarizing himself with the fauna of Southwest Florida.
Gulfshore Life awarded prizes to ten winners from level one who submitted the correct number of creatures found in the photo, or were randomly selected from those who were only off by one. One print of the artwork on metal was awarded to the genius-level winner by successfully listing the correct names of the creatures in the photo. A three-way tie for first place occurred and the winner was chosen at random.
