When the owner of a new house being built in Port Royal asked that the project be injected with a “Bali resort feel,” interior designer Lisa Kahn was happy to oblige, taking an opportunity to incorporate natural woods and other materials that aren’t ordinarily chosen for Southwest Florida’s décor.
Kahn admits it was an inspired design—one into which she poured a high level of passion and creativity while working with Stofft-Cooney Architects and BCB Homes. “You can feel it,” Kahn says. “There’s an energetic flow to the design project.”

The result of their work feels like an Indonesian resort in the heart of Old Naples. The house totals more than 11,000 square feet with five bedrooms and several bathrooms in the main space. Next door, there’s a guest cottage with at least one more of each.
The gated entry to the home leads up to a driveway that enchants visitors before they even reach the front door. Landscape designer Ed Westwood created pools of water flowing on each side of the walkway, with oversized urns made into fountains that continually feed them.
Indoors, floors made of solid walnut lead to a private living room and a grander, family-oriented space beyond. The spacious kitchen includes two separate islands and a liberal use of well-coordinated countertop materials: granite, Pompeii quartz and natural quartz.
“I always like the ways that we can celebrate the natural part of Florida,” Kahn says of her textured and organic approach to the home’s design. A mirror in a bedroom is encircled with oyster shells, a sink is created from bamboo, a wallcovering in a powder room is made of banana bark.
“I was having a love affair with antique mirror,” Kahn adds, pointing to one example in the spacious foyer. Another involves coconut shells. “I really tried to explore materials,” she continues. Rift coat oak is used in kitchen cabinetry, a herringbone weave was selected for the raffia ceiling in a media room, and one granite was chosen in four different textured finishes for the first floor’s master bathroom.
A masterful mixture of Indonesian-inspired furnishings is integrated with other pieces that feature clean, modern lines—all with the collected and layered look Kahn desired. Upstairs, a smaller family room is surrounded by four en suite bedrooms, each with stylized details of its own. Balconies overlook water views, the manmade pools at the front of the home and a luxurious swimming pool at the rear. Naples Bay, of course, is seen beyond.

The formal dining room incorporates the deep blues of nearby Naples Bay. The round table and ultra-comfortable dining chairs ensure hours of intimate conversation.

The cozy living room was designed with broad windows overlooking the bay. Walnut floors extend throughout the main floor of the home, providing a basis for the organic vibe incorporated by BCB Homes, Stofft-Cooney Architects and Kahn Design Group.

Hammered copper bowls were positioned around the great room’s television to detract from the screen and create more of a conversational space. “You can now use this room for more than watching TV,” Kahn says.
