Do I have some sunny news for early risers: We’ve got a new breakfast spot in town—and the food is good. Really good. With beignets and andouille aplenty, it spins a fresh perspective on brunch.
Another Broken Egg Café has taken over the spot on U.S. 41 near downtown Naples the held the Clock Family Restaurant before it timed out after a 38-year run, but that’s about where the similarities end. A complete overhaul, inside and out, has yielded a spacious outdoor patio and an interior with a modern farmhouse feel, plus—I think this may be a first in the Naples brunchosphere—a long bar for sipping mimosas, bloody marys and spiked coffees.
The menu speaks with a definite Cajun accent. We let the good times roll with Stan’s Mardi Gras omelette—smothered in tomatoey Hollandaise, the eggs were loaded with crawfish, shrimp, andouille, peppers and tomatoes (my suggestion: order the bacon-heavy City Grits as a side for true Crescent City decadence). When our Bananas Foster pancakes arrived, I was skeptical about the scant rounds of fruit and runny syrup in a tiny plastic cup, but looks sure were deceiving. That syrup had Foster’s notes of caramelized sugar, butter and liqueur to a T, and bits of pecan and moist banana were baked into the pancakes.
While I’m normally not big on chains (these cafes are in a dozen other states), when our waitress leaned in and surreptitiously let sneak out they were eyeing to open a second location in North Naples, I agreed it couldn’t come soon enough.
