As we enter another hurricane season, let's not forget about those who are still recovering from the previous one. In that vein, The United Arts Council of Collier County announced grants totaling $56,401 available to members artists and nonprofit cultural organizations in Collier County that suffered during Hurricane Irma.
The money is part of a grant given from the National Endowment of the Arts through the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs.
Applications are due by 4 p.m. on June 12. (The money is available only to UAC memebrs, but non-members can apply and join before submitting an application.) Download an application here.
The funds may be used for:
- Projects and activities judged to have artistic excellence and artistic merit produced in alternate locations due to damage of existing space.
- Rental of venues or equipment resulting from the hurricane’s impact.
- Purchase of replacement supplies and equipment utilized for administrative or artistic purposes. (Equipment costs above $5,000 must be identified and specifically approved; the applicant may not just say “equipment.”)
- Salaries, wages, and fringe benefits for organizational staff, in the event of business disruption. (However, in circumstances in which an organization provides benefits that include unemployment, and the staff is eligible to file for unemployment benefits, the National Endowment for the Arts cannot provide funds for such.)
- Repair and conservation of artistic and cultural materials, including costumes, performance sets, instruments and so forth.
- Design fees for construction or renovation of spaces, but not construction costs. The space must be owned by the organization applying for this type of support.
- Marketing and promotion expenses, publications and distribution.
- Repair of accessibility accommodations (but not construction or renovation to come into accessibility compliance).
