Social media can be great because it allows friends and family to share in memorable moments of your life. However, new research is showing that you may not remember those moments quite as well as you think. In a study published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, researchers found that people who shared an experience on social media tended to remember it in less detail than those who didn’t share it. The reason: The Google effect. Basically, if you know the information is easily accessible elsewhere, your brain doesn’t work as hard to retain it.
