Candy-Corn
Not to get too ghoulish, but there is such a thing as death by Halloween candy.
A lethal dose of sugar is about 13.5 grams per pound of body weight, according to the American Chemical Society, a nonprofit society of scientists. For the average American, that’s about 5.4 pounds of sugar in one sitting. So, we’re looking at about 262 of those fun-sized candy bars. No, this isn’t a challenge.
Of course, these numbers are a little up in the air. Researchers say the odds of actually eating more than 5 pounds of sugar and dropping dead is only about 50/50. But go easy this Halloween—let’s not test those odds ourselves.
