A pillar in the local theater scene, The Naples Players (TNP) celebrates their 70th season with reimagined productions and monumental upgrades. After breaking ground on their $20 million renovation project in April, the company sets the stage for its exemplary arts hub to redefine the region.
The expansion brings three immersive theaters to their Fifth Avenue South location, including the 105-seat Glass Theater, which houses the organization’s education and wellness programs, which serve thousands of students each year. CEO Bryce Alexander says the facility is the only LEEDs-certified theater in Florida, making the space a leader in its class for sustainability.
Every decision in the remodel was planned with inclusion in mind. The 450-seat Kizzie Theater features a private ‘Sensory Booth’ for families affected by sensory processing disorders to watch the shows with special accommodations, such as volume controls and private bathrooms. And, all the theaters and lobbies have hearing-assisted Bluetooth technology for individuals to tune their hearing aids directly to the sound systems. To make the theater more inviting to passersby on Fifth Avenue South, architect David Corban designed the atrium with a cafe and information center. Elsewhere in the building, there’s an expansive library full of play scripts, new rehearsal spaces, and expanded scene and costume shops for volunteers to get their hands dirty.
Audiences can catch a glimpse of the new Kizzie Theater with a production of The Producers debuting in June. The entire facility follows suit, opening to the public next summer. Until then, the company performs its impressive roster of platinum anniversary shows at Naples United Church of Christ.
