Nothing says "Southwest Florida" more than this Clyde Butcher-inspired black-and-white photomural shot by Doug Thompson for K2 Design’s remodel of a Hideaway Beach condo on Marco Island. The mural pulls double duty, hiding the large and seldom-used TV. Component cabinetry features wenge wood and white lacquer finishes, black granite, leather handles and belt leather with nail heads. The coffee table’s large tree root mimics the tangle of branches in the photo’s cypress swamp. A silver finish gives it a surreal edge. “During the design development, I thought a lot about the geography and flora of our beloved Southwest Florida: the gateway to the Everglades,” says K2 principal Jenny Provost. “That thinking provided inspiration for the photomural.” It also led to one of three Design Excellence Awards the firm earned from the American Society of Interior Design for the renovation.
