Dear Cheryl,
I’m done with dresses for a while (I’m in an orthopedic boot after some surgery)—what can I wear to all my upcoming events?
—Kay B, Fort Myers
One of my favorite trends this season is the pajama. it’s a surprisingly versatile look—a pajama-style shirt in a textured or printed fabric, teamed with some tailored pants or jeans is an easy daytime outfit. For evenings, the pajama comes into its own when in luxe fabrics such as satin or silk, but stick to darker-colored fabrics so the look isn’t too boudoir. Pajama pants, with their loose-cut legs, are perfect for slipping on over your surgical boot. Don’t worry about not being able to wear heels for a while—the perfect shoe for your dressed-up jammies is the smoking slipper. More elegant than the ballet flat, they’re perfect for padding around the most stylish places, and you’ll find them in every color and fabric combination.

What to Wear: TO NOSTALGIA NIGHT: JFK 50TH—WHERE WERE YOU?
It hardly seems possible that 50 years ago families across the world were glued to their TVs as the tragedy of President Kennedy’s assassination unfolded. But, indeed, a half century has passed and the events of Nov. 22, 1963, are being remembered across the nation. Everglades Community Church is holding Nostalgia Night: JFK 50th—Where Were You? to benefit the Everglades Society for Historic Preservation. With retro still a favorite fashion theme, it’s easy to pay homage to the ’60s without appearing to be in costume. A simple sheath dress would be perfect, or for a more casual look, try a sleeveless, button-up shirt and some fitted capris. For gentlemen, team a pair of chinos with a sleek polo shirt and add a pair of vintage-style Wayfarer sunglasses to perfectly evoke the era of Camelot.
