We have our fair share of food fests. But save room—there’s reason to get excited about one more.
Gunning to be one of the biggest and baddest, the inaugural “SWFL Hunger Games” will be held Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Fort Myers’ Top Rocker Field. As of July, already 18 of the area’s best food trucks and restaurants have signed on, and more than 30 are expected to be secured by the main event. The confirmed list is out—and it’s a good one. You’ll be able to hit every craving that may strike, from the Fort Myers gastropub King’s Kitchen to Sanibel’s inventive, upscale Sweet Melissa’s Café to popular food trucks like Red Roc Cravings and Jonesez BBQ.
They’ll be competing to win awards (the title “Games”), and aside from the chance to nibble and munch your way through lunch, breweries will also be on-site, filling up growlers and keeping you cool on a hot day.
Organizers, including title sponsor Morgan & Morgan, however, have made the true mission of the day to support the nonprofit Blessings in a Backpack, which provides meals to school children in need. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 the day of, and 100 percent of the $100 VIP tickets will be donated to the organization—that fee buys a child food for an entire year (and in return, you get early admission, free food samples, seating under a tent and runners to stand in the various lines for you).
