The American Heart Association recently announced that it’s lowering the bar for high blood pressure to 130/80. That means that millions of Americans who once thought they were out of the danger zone are suddenly stuck in the middle of it.
Here are a few things that can help lower your blood without taking medication, courtesy of the Mayo Clinic.
- Try the DASH diet. Start filling up on whole grains, veggies, fruits and low-fat dairy.
- Cut the salt. Avoid processed foods and an opt for low-sodium alternatives.
- Quit smoking. For many reasons.
- Exercise. Just 30 minutes a day can lower your blood pressure.
