Created in London in the 1980s, the Bramble is a twist on a gin sour with the addition of crème de mûre, or blackberry liqueur (hence the name "bramble," the bush blackberries grow on). A quintessential British beverage, it only seems proper to be the featured drink for the upcoming British Invasion themed Night at the Museum on April 16, hosted by and benefitting the Children's Museum of Naples. Crave Culinaire, the catering team behind the fundraising gala, shares their recipe for the London libation with us ahead of the event.
Bramble
What you'll need:
- 1.5 oz. gin
- .5 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice
- 1 tsp. simple syrup (recipe below)
- .5 oz. crème de mûre
- Crushed ice
For the simple syrup:
- Warm 1 cup of water in a saucepan (not to the point of boiling).
- Add 1 cup sugar and stir or swirl until the sugar is completely dissolved. Cool.
Directions:
- In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, pour in the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup and shake well.
- Strain into a rocks glass filled with crushed ice
- Slowly pour the crème de mûre over the drink
- Optional: garnish with lemon slices and blackberries
