Researchers looked at approximately 5,000 Americans age 70 and older over a period of three years. They discovered those who were taking anti-hypertensive medications (a commonly prescribed blood pressure medication) had a 30- to 40-percent greater likelihood of falling-related injuries. Researchers aren't blaming the drugs for the falls, but suggest the drugs might hamper alertness or cause blood pressure to drop rapidly when someone stands up.
