Naples-based interiors meet global design in this month’s Favorite Things. Suzanne Lovell, a Chicago architect with a local presence, selects storage pieces where everyday function becomes art, offering tactile, museum-worthy solutions that elevate interiors.

Bhanga Yellow by Vincent Dubourg
“It’s decomposing. That’s what makes it so good,” Suzanne says of French artist Vincent Dubourg’s sculptural, Bhanga Yellow cabinet. Its name references banga nana, the Buddhist concept that nothing is permanent. Crafted entirely from bronze, the 1,500-pound piece embodies the maker’s signature style: infusing motion into static forms and updating traditional materials with modern allusions. The large-scale cabinet features five divisions, each with three shelves. vincentdubourg.com

Santorini Cabinet by Achille Salvagni
Bronze monkeys swing across the patinated facade of Achille Salvagni’s cabinet, an homage to the frescoes of Akrotiri, the ancient city on the Greek island of Santorini. The darkened exterior recalls the volcanic ash that buried the site, while a gleaming gold-toned interior—punctuated by red lacquered shelves—offers surprise and contrast. Cast in bronze, the cabinet asserts itself with uncompromising weight. “It’s hard, solid, heavy, real,” Suzanne says. “It’s like he’s saying, ‘Dare me to put this together in bronze.’” achillesalvagni.com

Maple Cabinet by Caleb Woodard
Working from his Springfield, Tennessee, studio, woodworker Caleb Woodard treats each commission as an experiment in form, pushing organic carving to its limits while upholding exacting craft. This 2024 cabinet blends artistry and function: Valleys carved into white maple flow in smooth, natural lines across the surface, while the seamless inset doors provide a crisp counterpoint. “He’s an artist who continues to inspire me,” Suzanne says. calebwoodardfurniture.com
