“I’ll admit it: I’m not very healthy. I don’t exercise that much, and my diet isn’t exactly great, either. But as I’m getting older, I’m realizing that I need to shape up. What advice do you have to making that first step to getting healthier?” —Arlo G., Bonita Springs
Jennifer Khosla, founder of Lean and Green Body, says: I am proud of you for acknowledging that a change needs to happen—that’s the first step. When making a big change like this, the most important thing to do is to start small. Start by walking or jogging and tracking it on a device. Aim for logging 8,000 steps a day and gradually increasing that number every week. Diet-wise, keep a food journal tracking what you eat, how much you’re eating and how you feel afterward. Slowly begin to eliminate one “bad” item per week, whether that’s soda, fast food, processed food, and so on and so forth.
