A silk scarf is perhaps the most adaptable canvas in fashion—at once sophisticated and playful, equally at home wrapped at the neck or waist or displayed in a frame. For Naples-based Pelerine’s founder, Allison Pezzuti, Italian silk serves as the ideal medium for translating global artistic inspirations—Mexican art, centuries-old embroidery patterns, bold color studies—into everyday elegance. The brand emerged in 2021 as a quest for sophisticated versatility. While Pelerine’s catalog also includes capes and loungewear, the 35-by-35-inch silk squares provide the most harmonious expression of art and function.

Allison’s love of color drives the brand’s aesthetic. The linear shapes on the Georgie design (shown) play off the hyper-saturated base with crisp geometry. Pelerine’s squares are all made from silk twill, taking advantage of the weave’s more structured finish.

In the Dahlia, gestural black lines trace botanical forms on white silk, capturing the spontaneity of ink drawings. It’s a striking choice for those who prefer a monochromatic palette with artistic flair, Allison says. The size of the scarves ensures patterns remain visible, even when folded or tied.

Pelerine’s attention to detail shines through the Birdie scarf: Metallic tones lend the traditional motif a modern sophistication, while the scattered butterfly placement creates intentional asymmetry. The fabric’s weave adds subtle texture to the powder-blue ground.

Pelerine works with a small-batch manufacturer in Italy’s silk capital, Como, and collaborates with artists to conceive patterns often drawn from personal memory. The Cosette’s damask-like bird pattern recalls a charcoal drawing Allison fell in love with during her semester abroad in Mexico.

Silk provides a luminous quality to the hue of Pelerine’s Indigo scarf. A bright white botanical pattern accents the deep cobalt hue. “Everyone looks good in this color,” Allison says. The motif reimagines Paisley’s iconic teardrop swirls through a contemporary lens, with spiraling floral blooms.
